Shreyas Iyer: Shreyas Iyer was born in Chembur  Bombay  on 6 December  1994. His father  Santosh Iyer  is Tamil and his mother  Rohini Iyer  is Tuluva.  Iyer graduated from Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai after attending Don Bosco High School in Matunga and At the age of 18 Iyer was spotted by coach Pravin Amre at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana  which marked the beginning of his cricket career.

Born on 6 December  1994  Shreyas Santosh Iyer is a right-handed middle order batsman for the Indian national team. He plays domestic cricket for Mumbai and He played in the 2014 Under 19 Cricket World Cup as a member of the India Under 19 squad and He scored a century against New Zealand while playing for India in the 2023 Cricket World Cup semifinals.

Attacking top order batsman Shreyas Iyer is capable of combining traditional shots with force.  Iyer  who rose through the Under 19 ranks  scored back to back fifties to help India place fifth in the 2014 World Cup playoffs. He was moved to the opening position after a poor spell in the middle order, and in his first class debut for Mumbai the following domestic season  he finished as the team’s top run scorer with 809 runs at an average of over 50. He had an incredible Ranji Trophy season the following year  hitting a century in the final and amassing 1321 runs at 73.

Due to the team’s dismal first half performance  Gautam Gambhir resigned as captain  and Iyer took over as captain for the remainder of the 2018 tournament. Under Iyer’s leadership  the Daredevils won four games and lost four at the same time  despite finishing last in the standings.

At the 2015 IPL auction he made headlines when the Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals) paid ₹2.6 crore to acquire him. After scoring 439 runs during that season  he was named the IPL Emerging Player of the Year. Over the next six seasons  he became the team’s captain and a mainstay  amassing over 400 runs in four of them. He later broke the record for the most expensive player in the IPL after being purchased by the Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore. That record was broken when the Lucknow Super Giants paid ₹27 crore for Rishabh Pant at the same auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders captaincy

After being purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders at ₹12.25 crore in the 2022 auction  Iyer was named team captain and  After going through several ups and downs in the points table during the 2022 season  the team ended up seventh in the league. Due to a back injury, Iyer missed the 2023 season and Nitish Rana assumed the team’s captaincy.

International career

In March 2017 Iyer replaced Virat Kohli in the fourth Test match between India and Australia and Iyer played for India in their October 2017 T20 International (T20I) series against New Zealand. He did not bat in his debut T20 International match for India against New Zealand on 1 November  2017.

In November 2017 Shreyas Iyer was a member of India’s One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against Sri Lanka. He made his debut for India in a One Day International match against Sri Lanka on 10 December  2017.

Records and achievements

  • Ranji Trophy: 1321 runs in 2015 to 16 at a 73.39 average.
  • Scored 725 runs  including two hundreds  for the Ranji Trophy in 17.
  • 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy: With 373 runs  he led Mumbai in scoring while serving as their vice captain.
  • Records for T20: He broke the record for the highest score by an Indian batsman in T20 matches in February 2019 with 147 runs.
  • In November 2021 he played his first Test match against New Zealand and scored a century.
  • became the first Indian player to score a half century in the second innings of his first Test match.
  • While representing India in the 2023 Cricket World Cup he scored 100 runs in the semifinal match against New Zealand.
