Morné Morkel: started playing first class cricket at the age of 19 when he played for Easterns against the West Indies in the 2003–2004 season and  In his debut match  he dropped 17 no balls in a five over spell  evidence of his struggles with the no balls and Despite this challenging start,he showed promise by dismissing Ramnaresh Sarwan and scoring an undefeated 44 runs his first top class wicket.

Morkel made his Test debut against India on 26 December  2006  at the Boxing Day Test in Durban and  During his international career which spanned 2006 to 2018  he participated in 86 Test matches and became one of South Africa’s best bowlers and  Among the significant achievements he made during this period was becoming the fifth bowler to take over 300 Test wickets for South Africa in March 2018.

Morkel played in Test matches as well as 44 T20 Internationals (T20Is) and 117 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and  He became an essential member of the national team right away after making his ODI debut in 2007 and In 2007  he played for South Africa in the inaugural T20 World Championship  which was important for him and He was one of the most outstanding bowlers in the competition.

On 26 February  2018  Morkel announced his retirement from all international cricket after a series against Australia and His last appearance on the international stage stage came quickly . After retiring from cricket Morkel transitioned into coaching and He first coached the Pakistani national team in 2023 as their bowling coach before joining the Indian national team in August 2024 as their bowling coach and Morkel’s famous height of 1.96 meters allowed him to create bounce that batsmen found problematic.

He was a dangerous opponent on any pitch because of his bowling style, which combined speed often reaching upper speeds of about 140 kph with deft variations and He was consistently rated as one of the best bowlers in the ICC across all formats during his career.

After retiring from international cricket in 2018  Morné Morkel switched to coaching  and he has made significant progress in this new career and As of February 2025  his coaching career is the primary reason he continues to attract media attention in the cricket community.

1. In August 2024 Morkel became the Indian cricket team’s bowling coach and This appointment came after a successful time as the Pakistani national team’s bowling coach earlier in 2023 and His knowledge and expertise should help India’s bowling attack  especially with upcoming international games and tournaments.

2. Since joining the Indian coaching staff  Morkel has been actively involved in the squad’s development of young fast bowlers and He believes that improving one’s skills  mental toughness  and capacity to adapt to different playing conditions are crucial for success at the international level.

3. Fans and analysts are watching Morkel’s tactics and training regimens closely as India gets ready for a number of series in 2025, including bilateral series and ICC events, to see how his impact affects the team’s performance.

4. Morkel has also appeared in the media on a number of occasions to talk about his coaching philosophies and playing experiences and also He offers advice on how to bowl quickly as well as the value of conditioning and fitness for contemporary cricket players.

Morné Morkel the bowling coach for the Indian cricket team  recently returned to South Africa from the team’s training camp in Dubai and Morkel joined the Indian coaching staff in August 2024 and has a wealth of experience from his playing days as a former international cricket player and his subsequent coaching positions , Although the nature of these reasons has not been made public  it has been reported that this decision was made for personal reasons and His experience was expected to boost the skills of India’s fast bowlers, especially ahead of upcoming international matches.

Throughout his tenure with the team Morkel concentrated on creating bowler specific strategies and enhancing their performance indicators and As India gets ready for a number of tournaments and bilateral series his departure comes at a crucial moment.

In order to guarantee that the bowling unit continues to receive professional coaching prior to crucial games, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to act quickly to resolve this issue by hiring a temporary coach or looking for a replacement. The departure of Morné Morkel from India’s camp serves as a reminder of the difficulties faced by coaching staff as well as the value of team continuity during critical training sessions.
